October 15-21, 2007 "Downtown Motown" Downtown Detroit, Michigan, lies on the west side of the Detroit River. On the east side lies Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Connecting the two is the Ambassador Bridge - an impressive structure with an interesting history. Belle Isle, a 983-acre island and "crown jewel of Detroit's public park system," is visible towards the top-right corner of the photo. More information about Belle Isle can be found here. October 1-7, 2007 "For Sale By Owner" Anyone want to buy a roller coaster? Geauga Lake amusement park near Aurora, Ohio, recently announced that they will become a water park attaction exclusively. "Wildwater Kingdom" is not shown in this picture (but we do have photos of it!), but according to Geauga Lake's official website, it has become the favorite part of the park for visitors. September 24-30, 2007 "Monumental Island" Put-In-Bay, Ohio, is located on South Bass Island in Lake Erie and is a popular summer resort destination. The main landmark on the island is Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial. The monument commemorates the Battle of Lake Erie fought during the War of 1812. September 10-16, 2007 "Four Score and Seven Years Ago..." This is not just scenic countryside - this is Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, the site of the pivotal Civl War battle fought on July 1-3, 1863. In the foreground are Devil's Den and Little Round Top. Moving towards the town of Gettysburg to the north, you can see the Pennsylvania Memorial. September 3-9, 2007 "The Need for Speed"
The Mid-Ohio
Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, is as
challenging as it is beautiful. It is a favorite natural
terrain road course among drivers from many different
racing series. On July 29, 2007, open wheel racing returned
to Mid-Ohio after a several year hiatus. A record crowd
witnessed Scott Dixon win over 2007 Indianapolis 500 winner
and eventual 2007 IndyCar series champion Dario Franchitti.

August 27 - September 2, 2007 "Buckeye Country"
College football is back this weekend! In the full
resolution version of this photo of Ohio Stadium in
Columbus, Ohio, not only can you see the Buckeyes'
offensive and defensive formations during an inter-squad
scrimmage, but you can easily count the spectators in the
stands. (We're sorry, but the full res version is not for

Downtown Columbus, Ohio, is home of the Ohio Statehouse. Capitol Square

May 28 - June 3, 2007 "Slow Moving Vehicle" Ohio has a very large Amish population. Seeing a horse and buggy from a 230-horsepower airplane always seems a bit odd. Another name for this photo could have been "Same Planet, Different World". |
May 14-20, 2007 "Learning and Labor" According to Wikipedia, Oberlin College is "noteworthy for having been the first American institution of higher learning to regularly admit female and black students." Also, "Oberlin is known for having more alumni who earn PhDs than any other liberal arts college in the nation." The campus is located in Oberlin, Ohio, between Cleveland and Sandusky. |
May 7-13, 2007 "The Square" The Square in historic downtown Medina, Ohio, plays host to many events throughout the year. Its iconic gazebo sits in the exact center of the square and serves as a gathering place for residents and visitors alike. |
April 30 - May 6, 2007 "Cleveland's National Park" The Cuyahoga Valley National Park near Cleveland, Ohio, stands in contrast to the nearby urban areas of Cleveland and Akron. Originally designated as a National Recreation Area, the park became an official National Park on October 11, 2000. April 23-29, 2007 "Lake Medina" Lake Medina is a reservoir in the city of Medina, Ohio, that supplies much of the residents with drinking water. It's also a popular place to take a walk. The little blob on the horizon just right of center is the same smoke that can be seen in the Stock Photo of the Week from April 9.
