Infrared Service --
Winter months are the perfect time for home energy audits. Winter is also
a good time to do aerial infrared roof surveys (as long as there is not snow
on the roof...). The temperature difference between the outside air and the
inside air really makes the thermal signatures associated with air
infiltration stand out.
Above All - Ohio offers on-site inspections for air and moisture infiltration as well as aerial thermal infrared photography. We have state-of-the-art thermal infrared imaging equipment and software and we have a certified professional thermographer on staff. Contact us today to schedule your infrared inspection! The sooner you identify and correct insulation deficiencies or building problems, the sooner you can start saving money! What can infrared inspections, photos, and/or videos do for you or your company? Check out our infrared thermography pages or give us a call to find out! |
Above All - Ohio in the Cleveland Plain Dealer -- In case you missed it, Above All - Ohio photographer Mike Holthouse was interviewed by Grant Segall for a feature article in the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The article ran on page 2 of section A on Sunday, December 11, 2011. Click here to read the story on the Plain Dealer's web site! (You can also download a PDF of the article here...) |
Website Updates -- The final updates to the
2011 "Stock Photo of the Week" archive and the
2011 blog pages have been made. We ended the year with a couple
of ground-based specialty photos, but don't worry - we'll be back in 2012 with more aerials!
We try to include a diverse variety of images to show the types of work we do - we try to
keep them interesting and entertaining as well. We love to hear your feedback and we also
like to hear suggestions for future stock photos - please feel free to
contact us by whatever means you find most convenient and let us
know your thoughts!
If you haven't already checked it out, but sure to play around with the Cooliris wall - a new way to browse our stock photo of the week archives. Cooliris is plug-in for Firefox, Safari, or Chrome - once you install it, just visit any one of our SPOTW archive pages - 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, or 2011 - and click on the Cooliris "wall" icon in your browser or the icon that appears when you hover over any photo. If you do not have the free plug-in, click on the "Free Download" button on this page and check it out! Firefox users can also add Cooliris through Mozilla's secure site. |
Winter Aerial Photos -- Yes, we do fly and
take photos all year long, including the winter months.
Please be advised that we need as much lead time as possible for scheduling your photos. Winter weather means that we have to plan our flights well in advance. The number of days and the amount of daylight available for taking photos is much more limited now than it is in the summer. Also, the sun is lower and the shadows of buildings and objects become longer and more noticeable in aerial photos. This is not necessarily a bad thing - long shadows can have a pleasing dramatic effect in a photo. However, it is something to be aware of should shadows be undesirable. It's actually always in your best interest to give us as much notice as possible, not just during the winter. The more time we have to plan and the more time we have to wait for that perfect weather day, the more chance we have to get you the best possible photos. Give us a call to discuss your aerial, architectural, or infrared photos today, even if you don't think you'll be needing service for several weeks or even months! |

December 23, 2011: Above All - Ohio blog entry |
Last year, we took some ground-based photos of a display of life-sized
angels and featured one image as our final 2010 Stock Photo of the Week. As Christmas
drew closer this year, we decided to revisit those photos and show a
few more of them.
We hope you enjoy these photos and we hope you have a Merry Christmas (or whatever holiday you choose to celebrate!) and a wonderful and prosperous 2012! |

December Aerials -- November has come and
gone and we are now transitioning to winter flying. Yes, we do fly and take photos all year
long, even in the winter.
For the best possible photos, it's always best to give us as much notice as possible. That way, we can get a firm grasp on your needs and expectations and then fulfill them on the best possible day weather-wise. Please plan ahead when considering photos - especially this time of year! Give us a call to discuss your aerial, architectural, or infrared photos today! |
Website Updates -- The 11.14.2011 blog entry
remains our most recent (see our blog and news archive page).
Hopefully, we will post a new entry next week.
We have managed to update our "Stock Photo of the Week" feature for the past couple of weeks (the Thanksgiving holiday and over 450 miles of flying and 559 photos taken on a spectacular "Black Friday" is our excuse!). If you haven't had a chance to check out our updated infrared pages, please do so. You may also want to read a good article about infrared inspections on the U.S. Department of Energy's web site. Here are a couple of good bullet points from the article:

Infrared Service --
Fall is the perfect time for aerial infrared roof surveys. Sunny days followed
by cool nights create perfect conditions for finding moisture trapped in
roof membranes via infrared image analysis. Above All - Ohio offers aerial thermal infrared photography. We have state-of-the-art thermal infrared imaging equipment and software and we have a certified professional thermographer on staff. Contact us today to schedule your aerial (or ground-based) infrared inspection! Identifying and repairing small sections of a roof instead of an entire roof can save thousands, tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of dollars in repair costs! (Not to the mention aggregate energy cost savings over time...) What can infrared inspections, photos, and/or videos do for you or your company? Check out our infrared thermography pages or give us a call to find out! |
Black Friday Aerials -- If you own or market
stores, malls, or other retail properties, you probably want aerial photos that show your
parking lots at their fullest!
Whether you are opeing your doors at midnight on Thanksgiving and want a dramatic night time aerial of the crowds or if you want a nice daylight shot of shoppers in the middle of the day, give us a call to schedule your photos as soon as possible! There are only a limited number of sites we can fly and there's usually only a limited time frame in which we can get these once-a-year photos. (Note that your parking lot has to be pretty well lit for for night time aerials to work! We have a flash, but it's nowhere near big enough to be used for aerials!) There is no guarantee that the weather will cooperate and allow us to fly. Don't worry - there is no deposit required and if we can't fly, we don't charge you a penny! Give us a call to discuss your Black Friday / Black Friday weekend photos today! |
Website Updates -- A new (11.14.2011) blog entry
has been posted on our blog and news archive page. This one
has some neat shots of the fall harvest. Check it out!
In addtion to updating our "Stock Photo of the Week" feature this week, we also tweaked a couple of our infrared thermography pages after finding a good article about thermography on the U.S. Department of Energy's web site. Here are a couple of good bullet points from the article:
|
November 14, 2011: Above All - Ohio blog entry |
The leaves have mostly fallen in Ohio now - browns and greens now dominate
our view out the window. Most of the grass is still green, but the crops
- wheat, corn, soybeans - are dried and brown, ready for harvest.
We always enjoy watching the harvest from the air - combines, trucks, tractors, and wagons move up and down the fields making really neat geometric patterns on the ground. However, here in Ohio, we also have a large Amish population and their "old fashioned" ways of harvesting make for particularly interesting views of the landscape. We are fortunate that our work takes us over these rural areas of Ohio and we never tire of the view. One such view was featured as our "Stock Photo of the Week" on August 9, 2010. Here are a couple more views (Tip! Hover your mouse pointer over the photo for a brief description): |

November Aerials -- As the leaves fall from
the trees, our focus shifts (pun intended!) from colorful "beauty
shots" to photos where information is a priority.
As we noted in our last update, the next several months will be good for taking photos of buildings and ground areas normally obscured by trees. For example, November is a good month for hunters and DNR officials to obtain aerial photos as wildlife trails in the woods often times become visible. November is also one of the best month for obtaining true vertical images and creating photo maps. The leaves have mostly fallen and the grass is still green for the most part. In another month, snow will become an issue. There will be fewer and fewer days to obtain snow-free images as winter comes. Again, as noted in the left column, November (and December) are great months for aerial infrared images - for the hunters and DNR, thermal images can be used to locate and count animals in the woods. For the rest of us, it's a great time to do building inspections / energy audits. Please visit our thermography pages for more information. Whatever your needs, please contact us to discuss what we can do for you! |
Website Updates -- This week we
debut our blog and news archive! We will try to write
a short but (hopefully) interesting blog article at least once a month.
Our initial blog entry talks a little bit about the challenges of scheduling flights near stadiums. It also contains a couple of bonus photos - a close up of tailgating Cleveland Browns fans (the subject of this week's stock photo of the week...) and a new aerial photo of Cleveland Browns Stadium. We are still hoping to update the video page with a new Cleveland/Akron area aerial video and we are still planning to add that new section we mentioned in our last news section. Stay tuned and thanks for your patience! As always, be sure to check out our "Stock Photo of the Week" feature - we try to update it regularly so it is constantly changing. The most recent featured photos can be found at the bottom of this page, on the SPOTW archive page or on Facebook and Twitter. |

October 24, 2011: Above All - Ohio blog entry |
Ever since September 11, 2001, pilots have been faced with extra (excessive?)
scrutiny and flight restrictions. One of these restrictions is what is what
is known as a TFR - Temporary Flight Restriction. They've been around for
awhile, but they are much more common now.
There are many reasons for and types of TFR's but "stadium TFR's" are some of the most maligned TFR's we have to deal with. In a nutshell, pilots cannot fly below 3000' above the ground within a 3 nautical mile radius of a major sporting event from one hour before until one hour after the event without a waiver. The worst part about them is that they aren't published for each event - pilots are required to just know about them! In general we try not to even fly on game days. If we have to fly, we try to avoid getting any closer than 5 miles from the event. As a last resort, we will schedule our flight either well before or well after the event. Yesterday was one of those times when we just had to get photos for our client, but the downtown Cleveland site was closer than comfort to the TFR. So, we opted to fly a little earlier than normal instead of making our friends at ATC (air traffic control) nervous. The upside to this was that after our photo mission was complete, we were able to take a quick tour of downtown Cleveland where Browns fans were tailgating and officials were preparing the field for the game against the Seattle Seahawks. The result was that we were able to add some pretty cool (and somewhat rare...) stock photos to our library... Below are just a few samples - please contact us if you are interested in seeing more photos and/or purchasing a license to use these images. |

October Aerials -- October is already more
than half over. There is still time to get aerials (and ground photos) that show green
grass and leaves on the trees in the midwest, but time is running out quickly! Order today!
The next several months will be good for taking photos of areas normally obscured by trees. November in particular is a good month for hunters to obtain aerial photos of their land. Website Updates -- We have just
completed a massive update / expansion of the thermography
section of our web site! We've broken the old page into several sections based on
infrared applications and we've added a lot more very cool sample infrared photos
(that's "cool" as in "awesome" - not "temperature cool!").
We've also tweaked the verticals and mapping pages. We've broken them down to somewhat match the style of the infrared thermography pages. What's next? Glad you asked - next we hope to update the video page and hopefully add a new section - one that has been unfortuantely absent since our massive web site overhaul a couple of years ago. Stay tuned! Finally - as always - check out our "Stock Photo of the Week" feature - we try to update it regularly so it is constantly changing.
